Airbnb Privacy Policy
=====================

Last Updated: April 16, 2018

Thank you for using Airbnb!

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, process, and disclose
your information, including personal information, in conjunction with
your access to and use of the Airbnb Platform and the Payment Services.

If you see an undefined term in this Privacy Policy (such as "Listing"
or "Airbnb Platform"), it has the same definition as in our [Terms of
Service](/terms).

When this policy mentions "Airbnb," "we," "us," or "our," it refers to
the Airbnb company that is responsible for your information under this
Privacy Policy (the "**Data Controller**").

- If your Country of Residence is the United States, the Data
    Controller is Airbnb, Inc.
- If your Country of Residence is outside of the United States, the
People's Republic of China which for purposes of this Privacy Policy
does not include Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan ("**China**") and
Japan, the Data Controller is Airbnb Ireland UC ("**Airbnb
    Ireland**").
- If your Country of Residence is China, the Data Controller is Airbnb
Internet (Beijing) Co., Ltd. ("**Airbnb China**"), except where you
book a Host Service located outside of China or create a Listing
located outside of China, in which case the Data Controller is
    Airbnb Ireland for that transaction.
- If your Country of Residence is Japan, the Data Controller is Airbnb
Global Services Limited ("**Airbnb GSL**"), except where you book a
Host Service located outside of Japan or create a Listing located
outside of Japan, in which case the Data Controller is Airbnb
Ireland for that transaction. Additionally, if you reside in Japan,
Airbnb Ireland will be the Data Controller for all bookings
confirmed prior to June 13, 2018 at 3PM UTC.

This Privacy Policy also applies to the Payment Services provided to you
by Airbnb Payments pursuant to the [Payments Terms of
Service](/terms/payments_terms) ("**Payments Terms**"). When using the
Payment Services, you will be also providing your information, including
personal information, to one or more Airbnb Payments entities, which
will also be the Data Controller (the \"**Payments Data Controller**\")
of your information related to the Payment Services, generally depending
on your Country of Residence.

- If your Country of Residence is the United States, the Payments Data
Controller is Airbnb Payments, Inc. (a subsidiary of Airbnb, Inc.).
- If your Country of Residence is China the Payments Data Controller
is Airbnb China, except where you book a Host Service located
outside of China or create a Listing located outside of China, or
book a Host Service in China with a Host who is not a resident of
China, in which case the Payments Data Controller is Airbnb Payments
    UK.
- If your Country of Residence is India, the Payments Data Controller
is Airbnb Payments India Pvt. Ltd., except where you book a Host
Service outside of India or accept a booking from a Guest outside of
India, in which case the Payments Data Controller is Airbnb Payments
    UK Ltd.
- If your Country of Residence is outside of the United States, China,
and India, the Payments Data Controller is Airbnb Payments UK Ltd.

If you change your Country of Residence, the Data Controller and/or
Payments Data Controller will be determined by your new Country of
Residence as specified above, from the date on which your Country of
Residence changes. To this end the Data Controller and/or Payment Data
Controller that originally collected your personal information will need
to transfer such personal information to the new applicable Data
Controller and/or Payments Data Controller due to the fact that such
transfer is necessary for the performance of the contractual
relationship with you.

#### 1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

There are three general categories of information we collect.

##### 1.1 Information You Give to Us.

1.1.1 Information that is necessary for the use of the Airbnb Platform.

We ask for and collect the following personal information about you when
you use the Airbnb Platform. This information is necessary for the
adequate performance of the contract between you and us and to allow us
to comply with our legal obligations. Without it, we may not be able to
provide you with all the requested services.

- **Account Information.** When you sign up for an Airbnb Account, we
require certain information such as your first name, last name,
email address, and date of birth.

Airbnb Platform (such as booking or creating a Listing), we may ask
you to provide additional information, which may include your
address, phone number, and a profile picture.
- **Identity Verification Information.** To help create and maintain a
trusted environment, we may collect identity verification
information (such as images of your government issued ID, passport,
national ID card, or driving license, as permitted by applicable
laws) or other authentication information. To learn more, see our
Help Center article about [providing identification on
    Airbnb](/help/article/1237/how-does-providing-identification-on-airbnb-work).
- **Payment Information.** To use certain features of the Airbnb
Platform (such as booking or creating a Listing), we may require you
to provide certain financial information (like your bank account or
credit card information) in order to facilitate the processing of
    payments (via Airbnb Payments).
- **Communications with Airbnb and other Members.** When you
communicate with Airbnb or use the Airbnb Platform to communicate
with other Members, we collect information about your communication
and any information you choose to provide.

1.1.2 Information you choose to give us.

You may choose to provide us with additional personal information in
order to obtain a better user experience when using Airbnb Platform.
This additional information will be processed based on your consent.

- **Additional Profile Information.** You may choose to provide
additional information as part of your Airbnb profile (such as
gender, preferred language(s), city, and a personal description).
Some of this information as indicated in your Account settings is
part of your public profile page, and will be publicly visible to
    others.
- **Address Book Contact Information.** You may choose to import your
address book contacts or enter your contacts' information manually
to access certain features of the Airbnb Platform, like inviting
    them to use Airbnb.
- **Other Information.** You may otherwise choose to provide us
information when you fill in a form, conduct a search, update or add
information to your Airbnb Account, respond to surveys, post to
community forums, participate in promotions, or use other features
    of the Airbnb Platform.

1.1.3 Information that is necessary for the use of the Payment Services.

The Payments Data Controller needs to collect the following information,
as it is necessary for the adequate performance of the contract with you
and to comply with applicable law (such as anti-money laundering
regulations). Without it, you will not be able to use Payment Services:

- **Payment Information.** When you use the Payment Services, the
Payments Data Controller requires certain financial information
(like your bank account or credit card information) in order to
process payments and comply with applicable law.
- **Identity Verification and Other Information.** If you are a Host,
the Payments Data Controller may require identity verification
information (such as images of your government issued ID, passport,
national ID card, or driving license) or other authentication
information, your date of birth, your address, email address, phone
number and other information in order to verify your identity,
provide the Payment Services to you, and to comply with applicable
    law.

##### 1.2 Information We Automatically Collect from Your Use of the Airbnb Platform and Payment Services.

When you use the Airbnb Platform and the Payment Services, we
automatically collect information, including personal information, about
the services you use and how you use them. This information is necessary
for the adequate performance of the contract between you and us, to
enable us to comply with legal obligations and given our legitimate
interest in being able to provide and improve the functionalities of the
Airbnb Platform and Payment Services.

- **Geo-location Information.** When you use certain features of the
Airbnb Platform, we may collect information about your precise or
approximate location as determined through data such as your IP
address or mobile device's GPS to offer you an improved user
experience. Most mobile devices allow you to control or disable the
use of location services for applications in the device's settings
menu. Airbnb may also collect this information even when you are not
using the app if this connection is enabled through your settings or
    device permissions.
- **Usage Information.** We collect information about your
interactions with the Airbnb Platform such as the pages or content
you view, your searches for Listings, bookings you have made, and
other actions on the Airbnb Platform.
- **Log Data and Device Information.** We automatically collect log
data and device information when you access and use the Airbnb
Platform, even if you have not created an Airbnb Account or logged
in. That information includes, among other things: details about how
you've used the Airbnb Platform (including if you clicked on links
to third party applications), IP address, access dates and times,
hardware and software information, device information, device event
information, unique identifiers, crash data, cookie data, and the
pages you've viewed or engaged with before or after using the Airbnb
    Platform.
- **Cookies and Similar Technologies.** We use cookies and other
similar technologies, such as web beacons, pixels, and mobile
identifiers. We may also allow our business partners to use these
tracking technologies on the Airbnb Platform, or engage others to
track your behavior on our behalf. While you may disable the usage
of cookies through your browser settings, the Airbnb Platform
currently does not respond to a "Do Not Track" signal in the HTTP
header from your browser or mobile application due to lack of
standardization regarding how that signal should be interpreted. For
more information on our use of these technologies, see our [Cookie
    Policy](/terms/cookie_policy).
- **Payment Transaction Information.** Airbnb Payments collects
information related to your payment transactions through the Airbnb
Platform, including the payment instrument used, date and time,
payment amount, payment instrument expiration date and billing
postcode, PayPal email address, IBAN information, your address and
other related transaction details. This information is necessary for
the adequate performance of the contract between you and Airbnb
Payments and to allow the provision of the Payment Services.

##### 1.3 Information We Collect from Third Parties.

Airbnb and Airbnb Payments may collect information, including personal
information, that others provide about you when they use the Airbnb
Platform and the Payment Services, or obtain information from other
sources and combine that with information we collect through the Airbnb
Platform and the Payment Services. We do not control, supervise or
respond for how the third parties providing your information process
your personal data, and any information request regarding the disclosure
of your personal information to us should be directed to such third
parties.

- **Third Party Services.** If you link, connect, or login to your
Airbnb Account with a third party service (e.g. Google, Facebook,
WeChat), the third party service may send us information such as
your registration and profile information from that service. This
information varies and is controlled by that service or as
authorized by you via your privacy settings at that service.
- **Your References.** If someone has written a reference for you, it
will be published on your Airbnb public profile page with your
consent. To learn more, see our Help Center article about
    [References](/help/article/173/what-are-references-on-airbnb).
- **Background Information.** For Members in the United States, to the
extent permitted by applicable laws, Airbnb and Airbnb Payments may
obtain reports from public records of criminal convictions or sex
offender registrations. For Members outside of the United States, to
the extent permitted by applicable laws and with your consent where
required, Airbnb and Airbnb Payments may obtain the local version of
police, background or registered sex offender checks. We may use
your information, including your full name and date of birth, to
    obtain such reports.
- **Other Sources.** To the extent permitted by applicable law, we may
receive additional information about you, such as demographic data
or fraud detection information, from third party service providers
and/or partners, and combine it with information we have about you.
For example, we may receive background check results (with your
consent where required) or fraud warnings from service providers
like identity verification services for our fraud prevention and
risk assessment efforts. We may receive information about you and
your activities on and off the Airbnb Platform through partnerships,
or about your experiences and interactions from our partner ad
    networks.

#### 2. HOW WE USE INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We use, store, and process information, including personal information,
about you to provide, understand, improve, and develop the Airbnb
Platform, create and maintain a trusted and safer environment and comply
with our legal obligations.

##### 2.1 Provide, Improve, and Develop the Airbnb Platform.

- Enable you to access and use the Airbnb Platform.
- Enable you to communicate with other Members.
- Operate, protect, improve, and optimize the Airbnb Platform and
experience, such as by performing analytics and conducting research.
- Provide customer service.
- Send you service or support messages, updates, security alerts, and
    account notifications.
- If you provide us with your contacts' information, we may process
this information: (i) to facilitate your referral invitations, (ii)
send your requests for references, (iii) for fraud detection and
prevention, and (iv) for any purpose you authorize at the time of
    collection.

profiling based on your interactions with the Airbnb Platform, your
search and booking history, your profile information and
preferences, and other content you submit to the Airbnb Platform.

you (such as to verify your Accommodation address or compare your
identification photo to another photo you provide).
- Conduct checks against databases and other information sources,
including background or police checks, to the extent permitted by
applicable laws and with your consent where required.
- Comply with our legal obligations.
- Resolve any disputes with any of our Members and enforce our
    agreements with third parties.
- Enforce our [Terms of Service](/terms) and other policies.
- In connection with the activities above, we may conduct profiling
based on your interactions with the Airbnb Platform, your profile
information and other content you submit to the Airbnb Platform, and
information obtained from third parties. In limited cases, automated
processes may restrict or suspend access to the Airbnb Platform if
such processes detect a Member or activity that we think poses a
safety or other risk to the Airbnb Platform, other Members, or third
    parties.

We process this information given our legitimate interest in protecting
the Airbnb Platform, to measure the adequate performance of our contract
with you, and to comply with applicable laws.

##### 2.3 Provide, Personalize, Measure, and Improve our Advertising and Marketing.

communications or changing your notification settings within your Airbnb
Account.

experience with it, and where it is necessary for the adequate
performance of the contract with you and to comply with applicable laws.

#### 3. SHARING & DISCLOSURE

##### 3.1 With Your Consent.

Where you have provided consent, we share your information, including
personal information, as described at the time of consent, such as when
you authorize a third party application or website to access your Airbnb
Account or when you participate in promotional activities conducted by
Airbnb partners or third parties.

##### 3.2 Sharing between Members.

To help facilitate bookings or other interactions between Members, we
may need to share certain information, including personal information,
with other Members, as it is necessary for the adequate performance of
the contract between you and us, as follows:

- When you as a Guest submit a booking request, certain information
about you is shared with the Host (and Co-Host, if applicable),
including your full name, the full name of any additional Guests,
your cancellation history, and other information you agree to share.
When your booking is confirmed, we will disclose additional
information to assist with coordinating the trip, like your phone
    number.
- When you as a Host (or Co-Host, if applicable) have a confirmed
booking, certain information is shared with the Guest to coordinate
the booking, such as your full name, phone number, and Accommodation
    or Experience address.
- When you as a Host invite another Member to become a Co-Host, you
authorize the Co-Host to access your information and Member Content,
including but not limited to certain information like your full
name, phone number, Accommodation address, and email address.
- When you as a Guest invite additional Guests to a booking, your full
name, travel dates, Host name, Listing details, the Accommodation
address, and other related information will be shared with each
    additional Guest.
- When you as a Guest initiate a Group Payment Booking Request certain
information about each participant such as first name, last initial,
profile picture as well as the booking details is shared among all
participants of the Group Payment Booking Request.

We don't share your billing and payout information with other Members.

##### 3.3 Profiles, Listings, and other Public Information.

The Airbnb Platform lets you publish information, including personal
information, that is visible to the general public. For example:

- Parts of your public profile page, such as your first name, your
description, and city, are publicly visible to others.
- Listing pages are publicly visible and include information such as
the Accommodation or Experience's approximate location (neighborhood
and city) or precise location (where you have provided your
consent), Listing description, calendar availability, your public
profile photo, aggregated demand information (like page views over a
period of time), and any additional information you choose to share.
- After completing a booking, Guests and Hosts may write Reviews and
rate each other. Reviews and Ratings are a part of your public
profile page and may also be surfaced elsewhere on the Airbnb
Platform (such as the Listing page).
- If you submit content in a community or discussion forum, blog or
social media post, or use a similar feature on the Airbnb Platform,
    that content is publicly visible.

Based on our legitimate interest to promote the Airbnb Platform we may
display parts of the Airbnb Platform (e.g., your Listing page) on sites
operated by Airbnb's business partners, using technologies such as
widgets or APIs. If your Listings are displayed on a partner's site,
information from your public profile page may also be displayed.

Information you share publicly on the Airbnb Platform may be indexed
through third party search engines. In some cases, you may opt-out of
this feature in your Account settings. If you change your settings or
your public-facing content, these search engines may not update their
databases. We do not control the practices of third party search
engines, and they may use caches containing your outdated information.

##### 3.4 Additional Services by Hosts.

Hosts may need to use third party services available through the Airbnb
Platform to assist with managing their Accommodation or providing
additional services requested by you, such as cleaning services or lock
providers. Hosts may use features on the Airbnb Platform to share
information about the Guest (like check-in and check-out dates, Guest
name, Guest phone number) with such third party service providers for
the purposes of coordinating the stay, managing the Accommodation, or
providing other services.

##### 3.5 Compliance with Law, Responding to Legal Requests, Preventing Harm and Protection of our Rights.

Airbnb and Airbnb Payments may disclose your information, including
personal information, to courts, law enforcement or governmental
authorities, or authorized third parties, if and to the extent we are
required or permitted to do so by law or if such disclosure is
reasonably necessary: (i) comply with our legal obligations, (ii) to
comply with legal process and to respond to claims asserted against
Airbnb, (iii) to respond to verified requests relating to a criminal
investigation or alleged or suspected illegal activity or any other
activity that may expose us, you, or any other of our users to legal
liability, (iv) to enforce and administer our Terms of Service, the
Payment Terms or [o](/terms)t[h](/terms)e[r](/terms) agreements with
Members, or (v) to protect the rights, property or personal safety of
Airbnb, its employees, its Members, or members of the public.

Where appropriate, we may notify Members about legal requests unless:
(i) providing notice is prohibited by the legal process itself, by court
order we receive, or by applicable law, or (ii) we believe that
providing notice would be futile, ineffective, create a risk of injury
or bodily harm to an individual or group, or create or increase a risk
of fraud upon Airbnb's property, its Members and the Airbnb Platform. In
instances where we comply with legal requests without notice for these
reasons, we will attempt to notify that Member about the request after
the fact where appropriate and where we determine in good faith that we
are no longer prevented from doing so.

##### 3.6 Service Providers.

Airbnb and Airbnb Payments uses a variety of third party service
providers to help us provide services related to the Airbnb Platform and
the Payment Services. Service providers may be located inside or outside
of the European Economic Area ("**EEA**"). In particular, our service
providers are based in Europe, India, Asia Pacific and North and South
America.

For example, service providers may help us: (i) verify your identity or
authenticate your identification documents, (ii) check information
against public databases, (iii) conduct background or police checks,
fraud prevention, and risk assessment, (iv) perform product development,
maintenance and debugging, (v) allow the provision of the Airbnb
Services through third party platforms and software tools (e.g. through
the integration with our APIs), or (vi) provide customer service,
advertising, or payments services. These providers have limited access
to your information to perform these tasks on our behalf, and are
contractually bound to protect and to use it only for the purposes for
which it was disclosed and consistent with this Privacy Policy.

Airbnb and the Airbnb Payments will need to share your information,
including personal information, in order to ensure the adequate
performance of our contract with you.

##### 3.7 Corporate Affiliates.

To enable or support us in providing the Airbnb Platform and the Payment
Services, we may share your information, including personal information,
within our corporate family of companies (both financial and
non-financial entities) that are related by common ownership or control.

- **Sharing with Airbnb, Inc.** Even if your Country of Residence is
not the United States, your information may be shared with Airbnb,

to debug, improve, and expand product offerings. We use automated
methods where reasonably possible. However, occasionally we may need to
manually review some communications, such as for fraud investigations

    social networking service;
- the information you provide to us from the linking of your accounts
may be stored, processed and transmitted for fraud prevention and
    risk assessment purposes; and
- the publication and display of information that you provide to
Airbnb through this linkage is subject to your settings and
authorizations on the Airbnb Platform and the third party site.

We only collect your information from linked third party accounts to the
extent necessary to ensure the adequate performance of our contract with
you, or to ensure that we comply with applicable laws, or with your
consent.

##### 4.3 Google Maps/Earth.

Parts of the Airbnb Platform use Google Maps/Earth services, including

#### 5. THIRD PARTY PARTNERS & INTEGRATIONS

The Airbnb Platform may contain links to third party websites or
services, such as third party integrations, co-branded services, or
third party-branded services ("**Third Party Partners**"). Airbnb
doesn't own or control these Third Party Partners and when you interact
with them, you may be providing information directly to the Third Party
Partner, Airbnb, or both. These Third Party Partners will have their own
rules about the collection, use, and disclosure of information. We
encourage you to review the privacy policies of the other websites you
visit.

#### 6. YOUR RIGHTS

You may exercise any of the rights described in this section before your

verify your identity before taking further action on your request.

##### 6.1 Managing Your Information.

settings. You are responsible for keeping your personal information
up-to-date.

##### 6.3 Data Access and Portability.

In some jurisdictions, applicable law may entitle you to request copies
of your personal information held by us. You may also be entitled to

##### 6.4 Data Retention and Erasure.

We generally retain your personal information for as long as is

we erase your personal information and close your Airbnb Account. Please
note that if you request the erasure of your personal information:

- We may retain some of your personal information as necessary for our
legitimate business interests, such as fraud detection and
prevention and enhancing safety. For example, if we suspend an
Airbnb Account for fraud or safety reasons, we may retain certain
information from that Airbnb Account to prevent that Member from
opening a new Airbnb Account in the future.
- We may retain and use your personal information to the extent
necessary to comply with our legal obligations. For example, Airbnb
and Airbnb Payments may keep some of your information for tax, legal
    reporting and auditing obligations.
- Information you have shared with others (e.g., Reviews, forum
postings) may continue to be publicly visible on the Airbnb
Platform, even after your Airbnb Account is cancelled. However,
attribution of such information to you will be removed.
Additionally, some copies of your information (e.g., log records)
may remain in our database, but are disassociated from personal

##### 6.6 Objection to Processing.

In some jurisdictions, applicable law may entitle you to require Airbnb
and Airbnb Payments not to process your personal information for certain
specific purposes (including profiling) where such processing is based
on legitimate interest. If you object to such processing Airbnb and/or
Airbnb Payments will no longer process your personal information for
these purposes unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds
for such processing or such processing is required for the
establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

Where your personal information is processed for direct marketing

have the right to pursue binding arbitration through the Privacy Shield
Framework, as described in [Annex I to the Privacy Shield

If we have received your personal information under the Privacy Shield
and subsequently transfer it to a third party service provider for
processing as described in this Privacy Policy, we will remain
responsible if these providers process your personal information in a
manner inconsistent with the Privacy Shield Principles, except where we
can establish that Airbnb or Airbnb Payments was not responsible for the
violation.

##### 7.2 Other Means to Ensure an Adequate Level of Data Protection.

If Airbnb Ireland is the Data Controller and your information is shared
with corporate affiliates or third party service providers outside the
EEA, we have - prior to sharing your information with such corporate
affiliate or third party service provider -- established the necessary
means to ensure an adequate level of data protection. This may be an
adequacy decision of the European Commission confirming an adequate
level of data protection in the respective non-EEA country or an

and/or partners, and combine it with information we have about you.
For example, we may receive background check results or fraud
warnings from service providers like identity verification services
for our fraud prevention and risk assessment efforts. We may receive
information about you and your activities on and off the Airbnb
Platform through partnerships, or about your experiences and

We may share your information at your direction or as described at the
time of sharing, such as when you authorize a third party application or
website to access your Airbnb Account.

##### 3.2 Sharing between Hosts, Guests and Co-Hosts.

To help facilitate bookings, we may share your information with other
Members as follows:

- When you as a Guest submit a booking request, certain information
about you is shared with the Host (and Co-Host, if applicable),
including your full name, the full name of any additional Guests,
your cancellation history, and other information you agree to share.

The Airbnb Platform lets you publish information that is visible to the
general public. For example:

- Parts of your public profile page, such as your first name, your

- Public Listing pages are publicly visible and include information
such as the Accommodation or Experience's approximate location
(neighborhood and city), Listing description, calendar availability,
the Host public profile photo, aggregated demand information (like
page views over a period of time), and any additional information
    the Host chooses to share.
- After completing a booking, Guests and Hosts may write reviews and
rate each other. Reviews are a part of your public profile page.
- If you submit content in a public forum or social media post, or use
a similar feature on the Airbnb Platform, that content is publicly
    visible.

##### 3.4 Service Providers.

We use a variety of third party service providers to help us provide
services related to the Airbnb Platform. Service providers may be
located inside or outside of the European Economic Area ("**EEA**"). For
example, service providers may help us: (i) verify or authenticate your
identification, (ii) check information against public databases, (iii)
assist us with background checks, fraud prevention, and risk assessment,
or (iv) provide customer service, advertising, or payments services.
These providers have limited access to your information to perform these
tasks on our behalf, and are contractually obligated to use it
consistent with this Privacy Policy.

##### 3.5 Additional Services by Hosts.

Hosts may use third party services available through the Airbnb Platform
to assist with managing their Accommodation or providing additional
services, such as cleaning services or lock providers. Hosts may use
features on the Airbnb Platform to share information about the Guest
(like check-in and check-out dates, Guest name, Guest phone number, and
Guest anonymized email address) with that third party service provider
for the purposes of coordinating the stay, managing the Accommodation,
or delivering other services.

##### 3.6 Airbnb Payments.

Airbnb Payments may share your personal information to: (i) provide the
Payment Services, (ii) facilitate your use of the Airbnb Platform, and
(iii) jointly market products or services to you with other financial
third parties with whom Airbnb Payments has a formal agreement. You can
unsubscribe or opt-out from receiving such marketing communications in
your Account settings.

##### 3.7 Safety and Compliance with Law.

Airbnb may disclose your information to courts, law enforcement or
governmental authorities, or authorized third parties, if and to the
extent we are required to do so by law or if such disclosure is
reasonably necessary: (i) to comply with legal process and to respond to
claims asserted against Airbnb, (ii) to respond to verified requests
relating to a criminal investigation or alleged or suspected illegal
activity or any other activity that may expose us, you, or any other of
our users to legal liability, (iii) to enforce and administer our [Terms
of Service](/terms) or other agreements with Members, (iv) for fraud
investigation and prevention, risk assessment, customer support, product
development and debugging purposes, or (v) to protect the rights,
property or personal safety of Airbnb, its employees, its Members, or
members of the public.

We will attempt to notify Members about these requests unless: (i)
providing notice is prohibited by the legal process itself, by court
order we receive, or by applicable law, or (ii) we believe that
providing notice would be futile, ineffective, create a risk of injury
or bodily harm to an individual or group, or create or increase a risk
of fraud upon Airbnb's property, its Members and the Platform
(collectively, "**Risk Scenarios**"). In instances where we comply with
legal requests without notice for these reasons, we will attempt to
notify that Member about the request after the fact if we determine in
good faith that we are no longer legally prohibited from doing so and
that no Risk Scenarios apply.

##### 3.8 Corporate Affiliates.

To help us provide the Airbnb Platform, we may share your information
within our corporate family of companies (both financial and
non-financial entities) that are related by common ownership or control.
These related entities are covered under this Privacy Policy, and when
services have additional terms specific to them, we tell you through the
Airbnb Platform.

**Sharing with Airbnb Ireland.** If you reside in the United States,
some of your information may be shared with Airbnb Ireland when you

circumstances may include: (i) your name, e-mail address and phone
number, (ii) information relating to the Listing or Host Service,
including its address, (iii) booking information for the Listing or Host
Service, including but not limited to booking dates and payment amounts,

Ireland.

(including passport/national ID numbers and expiry dates) of any
    Guests.
- *Sending Messages.* If you send a message to a Host in relation to
that Host's Listing in China, your first name, profile picture and
    message content.

We'll notify you in advance in the above situations, and in specific
situations where we apply any practices for China that differ from what
is described in this Privacy Policy (including practices pertaining to
disclosures to Chinese government agencies).

##### 3.9 Widgets.

We may display parts of the Airbnb Platform (e.g., your Listing page) on
sites operated by Airbnb's business partners, using technologies such as
widgets or APIs. If your Listings are displayed on a partner's site,
information from your public profile page may also be displayed.

##### 3.10 Tax Authorities.

In jurisdictions where we facilitate the Collection and Remittance of
Occupancy Taxes as described in the "Taxes" section of the [Terms of
Service](/terms), Hosts and Guests expressly grant us permission,
without further notice, to disclose Hosts' and Guests' data and other
information relating to them or to their transactions, bookings,
Accommodations and Occupancy Taxes to the relevant tax authority,
including, but not limited to, the Host or Guest's name, listing
addresses, transaction dates and amounts, tax identification number(s),
the amount of taxes received (or due) by Hosts from Guests, and contact
information.

##### 3.11 Host Information Provided to Business Travel Program Customers.

If a booking is designated as being for business purposes and made by a
Guest affiliated with a company or other organization enrolled in our
Business Travel Program (either or both an "**Enterprise**"), we may
disclose information related to the booking to the Enterprise, such as
the name of the Host, the Accommodation address, pricing, Listing
details, and other related information. At the request of the
Enterprise, we may also share this information with third parties
engaged by it to provide travel management, financial reporting,
personnel management, crisis management, or other services.

##### 3.12 Guest Information Provided to Business Travel Program Customers.

If you have linked your Airbnb Account with an Enterprise, and you are
included on a booking designated as being for business purposes, we may
disclose information related to the booking to your Enterprise.
Typically, this includes your name, dates of the booking, number of
guests, pricing, Listing details, the Accommodation address, and other
related information. At the request of your Enterprise, we may also
disclose this information to service providers engaged by it, such as
companies that provide travel management, financial reporting, personnel
management, crisis management, or other services. In the event of a
dispute, emergency, or similar situation involving a booking identified
as being for business purposes, Airbnb may also share relevant
information it believes is necessary to safely and quickly address the
situation.

##### 3.13 Business Transfers.

If Airbnb undertakes or is involved in any merger, acquisition,
reorganization, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or insolvency event, then we
may sell, transfer or share some or all of our assets, including your
information. In this event, we will notify you before your personal
information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy
policy.

##### 3.14 Aggregated Data.

We may also share aggregated information (information about our users
that we combine together so that it no longer identifies or references
an individual user) and non-personally identifiable information for
industry and market analysis, demographic profiling, marketing and
advertising, and other business purposes.

#### 4. OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

##### 4.1 Analyzing your Communications.

We may review, scan, or analyze your communications on the Airbnb
Platform for fraud prevention, risk assessment, regulatory compliance,
investigation, product development, research, and customer support
purposes. For example, as part of our fraud prevention efforts, we scan
and analyze messages to mask contact information and references to other
websites. In some cases, we may also scan, review, or analyze messages
to debug, improve, and expand product offerings. We use automated
methods where reasonably possible. However, occasionally we may need to
manually review some communications, such as for fraud investigations
and customer support, or to assess and improve the functionality of
these automated tools. We will not review, scan, or analyze your
communications to send third party marketing messages to you, and we
will not sell reviews or analyses of these communications.

##### 4.2 Linking Third Party Accounts.

You may link your Airbnb Account with your account at a third party
social networking service. Your contacts on these third party services
are referred to as "Friends." When you create this link:

- some of the information you provide to us from the linking of your
    accounts may be published on your Airbnb Account profile;
- your activities on the Airbnb Platform may be displayed to your
    Friends on the Airbnb Platform and/or that third party site;
- a link to your public profile on that third party social networking
    service may be included in your Airbnb public profile;

may have with them, or that you are a Friend of their Friend if
    applicable;
- other Airbnb users may be able to see any schools, hometowns or
other groups you have in common with them as listed on your linked
    social networking service;

##### 4.3 Google Maps/Earth.

Parts of the Airbnb Platform use Google Maps/Earth services, including
the Google Maps API(s). Use of Google Maps/Earth is subject to [Google

#### 5. THIRD PARTY PARTNERS & INTEGRATIONS

The Airbnb Platform may contain links to third party websites or
services, such as third party integrations, co-branded services, or

with them, you may be providing information directly to the Third Party
Partner, Airbnb, or both. These Third Party Partners will have their own

applicable in Japan). We may request proof of identification to verify

#### 8. SECURITY

We are continuously implementing and updating administrative, technical,

We have made revisions to this Privacy Policy, effective May 25th, 2018.
You can see the new version [here](#update). By continuing to use our
services after May 25th, you agree to the new Privacy Policy. A summary
of changes can be found on our [Help
Center](https://help.twitter.com/rules-and-policies/update-privacy-policy).

#### Twitter Privacy Policy

Our Services instantly connect people everywhere to what\'s most
meaningful to them. For example, any registered user of Twitter can send
a Tweet, which is public by default, and can include a message of 140
characters or less and content like photos, videos, and links to other
websites.\

What you share on Twitter may be viewed all around the world instantly.
You are what you Tweet!\

This Privacy Policy describes how and when we collect, use, and share
your information across our websites, SMS, APIs, email notifications,
applications, buttons, embeds, ads, and [our other covered
services](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20172501#) that link to
this Policy (collectively, the "Services"), and from our partners and
other third parties. For example, you send us information when you use
our Services on the web, via SMS, or from an application such as Twitter
for Mac, Twitter for Android, or TweetDeck. When using any of our
Services you consent to the collection, transfer, storage, disclosure,
and use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. This
includes any information you choose to provide that is deemed sensitive
under applicable law.

When this policy mentions "we" or "us," it refers to the controller of
your information under this policy. If you live in the United States,
your information is controlled by Twitter, Inc., 1355 Market Street,
Suite 900, San Francisco, CA 94103 U.S.A. If you live outside the United
States, the data controller responsible for your information is Twitter
International Company, an Irish company with its registered office at
One Cumberland Place, Fenian Street, Dublin 2 D02 AX07 Ireland. Despite
this, you alone control and are responsible for the posting of your
Tweets and other content you submit through the Services, as provided in
the [Terms of Service](https://twitter.com/tos) and [Twitter
Rules](https://twitter.com/rules).\

Irrespective of which country you live in, you authorize us to transfer,
store, and use your information in the United States, Ireland, and any
other country where we operate. In some of these countries, the privacy
and data protection laws and rules regarding when government authorities
may access data may vary from those in the country where you live. Learn
more about our global operations and data transfer
[here](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20174632#).\

If you have any questions or comments about this Privacy Policy, please
submit a request through our form, available at
<https://support.twitter.com/forms/privacy>.\

##### Information Collection and Use

We collect and use your information below to provide, understand, and
improve our Services.\

Basic Account Information: If you choose to create a Twitter account,
you must provide us with some personal information, such as your name,
username, password, email address, or phone number. On Twitter, your
name and username are always listed publicly, including on your profile
page and in search results, and you can use either your real name or a
pseudonym. You can create and manage multiple Twitter accounts. If you
use [Digits by Twitter](https://get.digits.com/), the contact
information you provide to log in is not public. Some of our product
features, such as searching and viewing public Twitter user profiles or
watching a broadcast on Periscope's website, do not require you to
create an account.

Contact Information: You may use your contact information, such as your
email address or phone number, to customize your account or enable
certain account features, for example, for[login
verification](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20170388) or [Twitter
via SMS](https://support.twitter.com/articles/14589#). If you provide us
with your phone number, you agree to receive text messages to that
number from us. We may use your contact information to send you
information about our Services, to market to you, to help prevent spam,
fraud, or abuse, and to help others find your account, including through
third-party services and client applications. You may use your settings
for [email](https://twitter.com/settings/notifications) and [mobile
notifications](https://twitter.com/settings/devices) to control
notifications you receive from Twitter. You may also unsubscribe from a
notification by following the instructions contained within the
notification or the instructions on our website. Your Discoverability
[privacy settings](https://twitter.com/settings/safety) control whether
others can find you on Twitter by your email address or phone number.

Additional Information: You may choose to provide us with additional
information to help improve and personalize your experience across our
Services. For example, you may choose to upload and sync your address
book so that we can help you find and connect with users you know or
help other users find and connect with you. We may later personalize
content, such as making suggestions or showing user accounts and Tweets
for you and other users, based on imported address book contacts. You
can delete your imported address book contacts at any time by visiting
your Contacts Dashboard at
<https://twitter.com/settings/contacts_dashboard>. If you email us, we
may keep your message, email address, and contact information to respond
to your request. If you connect your account on our Services to your
account on another service, the other service may send us information
that you authorize for use in the Services. This information may enable
cross-posting or otherwise help us improve the Services, and is deleted
from our Services within a few weeks of your disconnecting from our
Services your account on the other service.

Tweets, Following, Lists, Profile, and Other Public Information: Twitter
is primarily designed to help you share information with the world. Most
of the information you provide us through Twitter is information you are
asking us to make public. You may provide us with profile information
such as a short biography, your location, your website, date of birth,
or a picture. Additionally, your public information includes the
messages you Tweet; the metadata provided with Tweets, such as when you
Tweeted and the client application you used to Tweet; information about
your account, such as creation time, language, country, and time zone;
and the lists you create, people you follow, Tweets you Like or Retweet,
and Periscope broadcasts you click or otherwise engage with (such as by
commenting or hearting) on Twitter. Twitter broadly and instantly
disseminates your public information to a wide range of users,
customers, and services, including search engines, developers, and
publishers that integrate Twitter content into their services, and
organizations such as universities, public health agencies, and market
research firms that analyze the information for trends and insights.
When you share information or content like photos, videos, and links via
the Services, you should think carefully about what you are making
public. We may use this information to make
[inferences](https://twitter.com/your_twitter_data), like what topics
you may be interested in. Our default is almost always to make the
information you provide through the Services public for as long as you
do not delete it, but we generally give you
[settings](https://twitter.com/settings/safety) or features, like
[protected Tweets](https://support.twitter.com/articles/14016#), to make
the information more private if you want. For certain profile
information fields we provide you with [visibility
settings](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20172733#) to select who
can see this information in your profile. If you provide us with profile
information and you don't see a visibility setting, that information is
public. You can change the
[language](https://support.twitter.com/articles/119137#) and [time
zone](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20169405#) associated with
your account at any time using your account settings, available at
<https://twitter.com/settings/account>.

Direct Messages and Non-Public Communications: We provide certain
features that allow you to communicate more privately. For example, you
can use Direct Messages to have private conversations with other Twitter
users. When you privately communicate with others through our Services,
such as by sending and receiving Direct Messages, we will store and
process your communications, and information related to them. Please
note that if you interact with public Twitter content shared with you
via Direct Message, for instance by liking a Tweet shared via Direct
Message, those interactions may be public. When you use features like
Direct Messages to communicate privately, please remember that
recipients may copy, store, and re-share the contents of your
communications.

Location Information: We may receive information about your location.
For example, you may choose to publish your location in your Tweets and
in your Twitter profile. You may also tell us your location when you set
your trend location on Twitter.com. We may also determine location by
using other data from your device, such as precise location information
from GPS, information about wireless networks or cell towers near your
mobile device, or your IP address. We may use and store information
about your location to provide features of our Services, such as
allowing you to Tweet with your location, and to improve and customize
the Services, for example, with more relevant content like local trends,
stories, ads, and suggestions for people to follow. Learn more about our
use of location [here](https://support.twitter.com/articles/78525#), and
how to set your location preferences
[here](https://support.twitter.com/articles/118492#).

Links: We may keep track of how you interact with links across our
Services, including our email notifications, third-party services, and
client applications, by redirecting clicks or through other means. We do
this to help improve our Services, to provide more relevant advertising,
and to be able to share aggregate click statistics such as how many
times a particular link was clicked on. Links, Tweets, and non-public
communications like Direct Messages shared on the Services will be
processed and links shortened to a [http://t.co](http://t.co/) link.

Cookies: Like many websites, we use cookies and similar technologies to
collect additional website usage data and to improve our Services, but
we do not require cookies for many parts of our Services such as
searching and looking at public user profiles. A cookie is a small data
file that is transferred to your computer or mobile device. We may use
both session cookies and persistent cookies to better understand how you
interact with our Services, to monitor aggregate usage by our users and
web traffic routing on our Services, and to customize and improve our
Services. Although most web browsers automatically accept cookies, some
browsers' settings can be modified to decline cookies or alert you when
a website is attempting to place a cookie on your computer. However,
some Services may not function properly if you disable cookies. You can
control how we personalize your Twitter experience and ads by using your
Personalization and Data settings, which are available at
<https://twitter.com/personalization> whether or not you have a Twitter
account. We respond to these settings rather than the Do Not Track
browser option, which we no longer support. Learn more about how we use
cookies and similar technologies
[here](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20170514#).

Using Our Services: We receive information when you view content on or
otherwise interact with our Services, even if you have not created an
account ("Log Data"). For example, when you visit our websites, sign
into our Services, interact with our email notifications, use your
account to authenticate to a third-party website, application, or
service, or visit a third-party website, application, or service that
includes Twitter content, we may receive information about you. This Log
Data may include your IP address, browser type, operating system, the
referring web page, pages visited, location, your mobile carrier, device
information (including device and application IDs), search terms, or
cookie information. We also receive Log Data when you click on, view or
interact with links on our Services, including links to third-party
applications, such as when you choose to install another application
through Twitter. We use Log Data to make inferences, like what topics
you may be interested in, and to customize the content we show you,
including ads. You can learn about the interests we have inferred about
you from your activity on and off of Twitter in Your Twitter Data,
available at <https://twitter.com/your_twitter_data>. We keep Log Data
as needed for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. We will
either delete Log Data or remove any common account identifiers, such as
your username, full IP address, email address, or phone number, after a
maximum of 18 months, if not
sooner[](https://twitter.com/privacy?lang=en#tfw).

Twitter for Web Data: We may personalize the Services for you based on
your visits to third-party websites that integrate Twitter content such
as embedded timelines or Tweet buttons. When you view our content on
these websites, we may receive Log Data that includes the web page you
visited. We never associate this web browsing history with your name,
email address, phone number, or Twitter handle, and we delete,
obfuscate, or aggregate it after no longer than 30 days. We may use
interests or other information that we derive from this data to improve
our Services and personalize content for you, such as suggestions for
people to follow, advertising, and other content you may be interested
in. You can see and control interests that we use to personalize your
experience in Your Twitter Data, available at
<https://twitter.com/your_twitter_data>. You can also control whether we
keep track of your visits to websites with Twitter content by using your
Personalization and Data settings, available at
<https://twitter.com/personalization>.\

Advertising: Our Services are supported by advertising. We may use the
information described in this Privacy Policy to help make our
advertising more relevant to you, to measure its effectiveness, and to
help recognize your devices to serve you ads on and off of Twitter. We
do not use the content you share privately in Direct Messages to serve
you ads. Our Twitter Ads Policy also prohibits advertisers from
targeting ads based on categories we consider
[sensitive](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20170368#), such as
race, religion, politics, sex life, or health. Twitter adheres to the
Digital Advertising Alliance Self-Regulatory Principles for Online
Behavioral Advertising (also referred to as "interest-based
advertising"). If you prefer, you can opt out of interest-based
advertising by unchecking Personalize Ads in your Personalization and
Data settings, available at <https://twitter.com/personalization> or
through the DAA's consumer choice tool at
[https://optout.aboutads.info](https://optout.aboutads.info/). We will
not use information from the browser (and for logged in users, the
account) on which you opt out for interest-based advertising, and that
browser or account will not be eligible to receive interest-based ads
from Twitter. Learn more about your privacy options for interest-based
ads
[here](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20170514#privacy-options)
and about how ads work on our Services
[here](https://business.twitter.com/en/help/troubleshooting/how-twitter-ads-work.html).

Third-Parties and Affiliates: We may receive information about you from
third parties, such as other Twitter users, partners (including ad
partners), or our [corporate
affiliates](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20172501#). For
example, other users may share or disclose information about you, such
as when they mention you, share a photo of you, or tag you in a photo.
Your [privacy settings](https://twitter.com/settings/safety) control who
can tag you in a photo. Our ad partners and affiliates may share
information with us such as a browser cookie ID, mobile device ID, or
cryptographic hash of an email address, as well as demographic or
interest data and content viewed or actions taken on a website or app.
Our ad partners, particularly our advertisers, may enable us to collect
similar information directly from their website or app by integrating
our advertising technology.

Personalizing Across Your Devices: When you log into your account with a
browser or device, we will associate that browser or device with your
account for purposes such as authentication and personalization.
Depending on your settings, we may also personalize your experience on,
and based on information from, other browsers or devices besides the
ones you use to log into Twitter. For example, if you visit websites
with sports content on your laptop, we may show you sports-related ads
on Twitter for Android. You can control whether we link your account to
browsers or devices other than the ones you use to log into Twitter (or
if you're logged out, whether we link the browser or device you're
currently using to any other devices) through your Personalization and
Data settings, available at <https://twitter.com/personalization>.

##### Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not disclose your private personal information except in the
limited circumstances described here.\

User Consent or Direction: We may share or disclose your information at
your direction, such as when you authorize a third-party web client or
application to access your account or when you direct us to share your
feedback with a business. When you use Digits by Twitter to sign up for
or log in to a third-party application, you are directing us to share
your contact information, such as your phone number, with that
application. If you've shared information, like Direct Messages or
protected Tweets, with another user who accesses Twitter through a
third-party service, keep in mind that the information may be shared
with the third-party service.

Service Providers: We engage service providers to perform functions and
provide services to us in the United States, Ireland, and other
countries. For example, we use a variety of third-party services to help
provide our Services, such as hosting our various blogs and wikis, and
to help us understand and improve the use of our Services, such as
Google Analytics. We may share your private personal information with
such service providers subject to obligations consistent with this
Privacy Policy and any other appropriate confidentiality and security
measures, and on the condition that the third parties use your private
personal data only on our behalf and pursuant to our instructions. We
share your payment information, including your credit or debit card
number, card expiration date, CVV code, and billing address with payment
services providers to process payments; prevent, detect and investigate
fraud or other prohibited activities; facilitate dispute resolution such
as chargebacks or refunds; and for other purposes associated with the
acceptance of credit or debit cards.

Law and Harm: Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Privacy
Policy, we may preserve or disclose your information if we believe that
it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, [legal
process, or governmental
request](https://support.twitter.com/articles/41949#); to protect the
safety of any person; to address fraud, security or technical issues; or
to protect our or our users' rights or property. However, nothing in
this Privacy Policy is intended to limit any legal defenses or
objections that you may have to a third party's, including a
government's, request to disclose your information.

Business Transfers and Affiliates: In the event that we are involved in
a bankruptcy, merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets,
your information may be sold or transferred as part of that transaction.
This Privacy Policy will apply to your information as transferred to the
new entity. We may also disclose information about you to our [corporate
affiliates](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20172501) in order to
help provide, understand, and improve our Services and our affiliates'
services, including the delivery of ads.

Public Information: We may share or disclose your public information,
such as your public user profile information, public Tweets, or the
people you follow or that follow you. Remember: your privacy and
visibility settings control whether your Tweets and certain profile
information are made public. Other information, like your name and
username, is always public on Twitter, unless you delete your account,
as described below.

Non-Personal, Aggregated, or Device-Level Information: We may share or
disclose non-personal, aggregated, or device-level information such as
the total number of times people engaged with a Tweet, the number of
users who clicked on a particular link or voted on a poll in a Tweet
(even if only one did), the characteristics of a device or its user when
it is available to receive an ad, the topics that people are Tweeting
about in a particular location, or aggregated or device-level reports to
advertisers about users who saw or clicked on their ads. This
information does not include your name, email address, phone number, or
Twitter handle. We may, however, share non-personal, aggregated, or
device-level information through partnerships with entities that may use
data in their possession (including data you may have given them) to
link your name, email address, or other personal information to the
information we provide them. These partnerships require that they get
your consent before doing so. You can control whether Twitter shares
your information under [these
partnerships](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20175379#) by using
your Personalization and Data settings, available at
<https://twitter.com/personalization>.\

##### Accessing and Modifying Your Personal Information

If you are a registered user of our Services, we provide you with tools
and [account settings](https://twitter.com/account/settings) to access,
correct, delete, or modify the personal information you provided to us
and associated with your account. You can download certain account
information, including your Tweets, by following the instructions
[here](https://support.twitter.com/articles/20170160-downloading-your-twitter-archive).
You can learn more about the interests we have inferred about you in
[Your Twitter Data](https://twitter.com/your_twitter_data) and request
access to additional information
[here](https://support.twitter.com/forms/privacy).

You can also permanently delete your Twitter account. If you follow the
instructions
[here](https://support.twitter.com/articles/15358-how-to-deactivate-your-account),
your account will be deactivated and then deleted. When deactivated,
your account, including your name, username, and public profile, is not
viewable on Twitter.com. For up to 30 days after deactivation it is
still possible to restore your account if it was accidentally or
wrongfully deactivated. Absent a separate arrangement between you and us
to extend your deactivation period, after 30 days, we begin the process
of deleting your account from our systems, which can take up to a week.

Keep in mind that search engines and other third parties may still
retain copies of your public information, like your user profile
information and public Tweets, even after you have deleted the
information from the Twitter Services or deactivated your account. Learn
more
[here](https://support.twitter.com/articles/15349-why-is-my-twitter-profile-in-google-search).

##### Our Global Operations

To bring you the Services, we operate globally. Twitter, Inc. complies
with the EU-US and Swiss-US Privacy Shield principles (the "Principles")
regarding the collection, use, sharing, and retention of personal
information from the European Union and Switzerland, as described in our
[EU-US Privacy Shield certification](https://www.privacyshield.gov/list)
and Swiss-US Privacy Shield certification.

If you have a Privacy Shield-related complaint, please contact us
[here](https://support.twitter.com/forms/privacy). As part of our
participation in Privacy Shield, if you have a dispute with us about our
adherence to the Principles, we will seek to resolve it through our
internal complaint resolution process, alternatively through the
independent dispute resolution body
[JAMS](https://www.jamsadr.com/eu-us-privacy-shield), and under certain
conditions, through the [Privacy Shield arbitration
process](https://www.privacyshield.gov/article?id=G-Arbitration-Procedures).\

Privacy Shield participants are subject to the investigatory and
enforcement powers of the US Federal Trade Commission and other
authorized statutory bodies. Under certain circumstances, participants
may be liable for the transfer of personal information from the EU or
Switzerland to third parties outside the EU and Switzerland. Learn more
about the EU-US Privacy Shield and Swiss-US Privacy Shield
[here](https://www.privacyshield.gov/welcome).\

##### Changes to this Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. The most current
version of the policy will govern our use of your information and will
always be at <https://twitter.com/privacy>. If we make a change to this
policy that, in our sole discretion, is material, we will notify you via
an [\@Twitter](https://twitter.com/Twitter) update or email to the email
address associated with your account. By continuing to access or use the
Services after those changes become effective, you agree to be bound by
the revised Privacy Policy.

Effective: June 18, 2017

Twitter Privacy Policy
======================

We believe you should always know what data we collect from you and how
we use it, and that you should have meaningful control over both. We
want to empower you to make the best decisions about the information
that you share with us.\
\
That's the basic purpose of this Privacy Policy.

You should read this policy in full, but here are a few key things we
hope you take away from it:

Twitter is public and Tweets are immediately viewable and searchable by
anyone around the world. We give you non-public ways to communicate on
Twitter too, through protected Tweets and Direct Messages. You can also
use Twitter under a pseudonym if you prefer not to use your name.

When you use Twitter, even if you're just looking at Tweets, we receive
some personal information from you like the type of device you're using
and your IP address. You can choose to share additional information with
us like your email address, phone number, address book contacts, and a
public profile. We use this information for things like keeping your
account secure and showing you more relevant Tweets, people to follow,
events, and ads.

We give you control through your
[settings](https://twitter.com/settings/account) to limit the data we
collect from you and how we use it, and to control things like account
security, marketing preferences, apps that can access your account, and
address book contacts you've uploaded to Twitter. You can also always
[download](https://help.twitter.com/en/managing-your-account/how-to-download-your-twitter-archive)
the information you have shared on Twitter.

In addition to information you share with us, we use your Tweets,
content you've read, Liked, or Retweeted, and other information to
determine what topics you're interested in, your age, the languages you
speak, and other signals to show you more relevant content. We give you
[transparency](https://twitter.com/settings/your_twitter_data) into that
information, and you can modify or correct it at any time.

If you have questions about this policy, how we collect or process your
personal data, or anything else related to our privacy practices, we
want to hear from you. You can [contact
us](https://help.twitter.com/forms/privacy) at any time.

Basic Account Information
-------------------------

You don't have to create an account to use some of our service features,
such as searching and viewing public Twitter profiles or watching a
broadcast on Periscope's website. If you do choose to create an account,
you must provide us with some personal data so that we can provide our
services to you. On Twitter this includes a display name (for example,
"Twitter Moments"), a username (for example, \@TwitterMoments), a
password, and an email address or phone number. Your display name and
username are always public, but you can use either your real name or a
pseudonym. You can also [create and manage multiple Twitter
accounts](#tooltip-chapter1.1.1), for example to express different parts
of your identity.\

Public Information
------------------

Most activity on Twitter is public, including your [profile
information](#tooltip-chapter1.2.1), [your time zone and
language](https://twitter.com/settings/account), when you created your
account, and your Tweets and certain information about your Tweets like
the date, time, and application and version of Twitter you Tweeted from.
You also may choose to publish your location in your Tweets or your
Twitter profile. The lists you create, people you follow and who follow
you, and Tweets you Like or Retweet are also public. Periscope
broadcasts you create, click on, or otherwise engage with, either on
Periscope or on Twitter, are public along with when you took those
actions. So are your hearts, comments, the number of hearts you've
received, which accounts you are a Superfan of, and whether you watched
a broadcast live or on replay. Any hearts, comments, or other content
you contribute to another account's broadcast will remain part of that
broadcast for as long as it remains on Periscope. Information posted
about you by other people who use our services may also be public. For
example, other people may [tag you in a photo](#tooltip-chapter1.2.2)
(if your settings allow) or mention you in a Tweet.

You are responsible for your Tweets and other information you provide
through our services, and you should [think carefully about what you
make public](#overlay-chapter1.2.1), especially if it is sensitive
information. If you update your public information on Twitter, such as
by deleting a Tweet or deactivating your account, we will reflect your
updated content on Twitter.com, Twitter for iOS, and Twitter for
Android.

In addition to providing your public information to the world directly
on Twitter, [we also use technology like application programming
interfaces](https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/twitter-api)

this data can be used, and a compliance program to enforce these terms.
But these individuals and companies are not affiliated with Twitter, and

Contact Information and Address Books
-------------------------------------

We use your contact information, such as your email address or phone

and to send you information about our services. If you provide us with
your phone number, you agree to receive text messages from Twitter to
that number as your country's laws allow. Twitter also uses your contact
information to market to you as your country's laws allow, and to help
others find your account if your settings permit, including through
third-party services and client applications. You can use your settings
for [email](https://twitter.com/settings/notifications) and [mobile
notifications](https://twitter.com/settings/devices) to control
notifications you receive from Twitter. You can also unsubscribe from a
notification by following the instructions contained within the
notification or
[here](https://help.twitter.com/managing-your-account#notifications).

You can choose to upload and sync your address book on Twitter so that
we can help you find and connect with people you know and help others
find and connect with you. We also use this information to better
recommend content to you and others.

You can sign up for Periscope with an account from another service like
Twitter, Google, or Facebook, or connect your Periscope account to these
other services. If you do, we will use information from that service,
including your email address, friends, or contacts list, to recommend
other accounts or content to you or to recommend your account or content
to others. You can control whether your Periscope account is
discoverable by email through your [Periscope

If you email us, we will keep the content of your message, your email
address, and your contact information to respond to your request.

1.4

Direct Messages and Non-Public Communications
---------------------------------------------

We provide certain features that let you communicate more privately or
control who sees your content. For example, you can use [Direct
Messages](https://help.twitter.com/using-twitter/direct-messages) to
have non-public conversations on Twitter, [protect your
Tweets](https://help.twitter.com/en/safety-and-security/public-and-protected-tweets),
or host [private
broadcasts](https://help.pscp.tv/customer/portal/articles/2017789) on
Periscope. When you communicate with others by sending or receiving
Direct Messages, we will store and process your communications and
information related to them. This includes link scanning for malicious
content, link shortening to [http://t.co](http://t.co/) URLs, [detection
of spam](#tooltip-chapter1.4.1) and prohibited images, and review of
reported issues. We also use information about whom you have
communicated with and when (but not the content of those communications)
to better understand the use of our services, to protect the safety and
integrity of our platform, and to show more relevant content. We share
the content of your Direct Messages with the people you've sent them to;
we do not use them to serve you ads. Note that if you interact in a way
that would ordinarily be public with Twitter content shared with you via
Direct Message, for instance by liking a Tweet, those interactions will
be public. When you use features like Direct Messages to communicate,
remember that [recipients have their own copy](#tooltip-chapter1.4.2) of

Cookies
-------

A cookie is a small piece of data that is stored on your computer or
